What are your rituals or traditions for starting off a new year?
Well, I've never really had any rituals at New Years. Nor resolutions. I used to always say, "If you don't make any resolutions, you won't have anything to feel guilty about when you don't stick to them later in the year!"
I've never been a huge New Year fan--I don't drink, don't have friends here in AZ (aside from my husband of course), AND, most importantly--I don't think we should wait for just the start of a new Roman Calendar Year to resolve to make changes in our lives.
I've spent the past year and half or more really, really working on myself--making changes, doing my best to take better care of myself...and it's a tough, year-round job!!
Anyways, last night to celebrate the New Year, Torey and I went to see the new 'National Treasure' movie. It was completely awesome, better than the 1st I think, and I can't wait for the next one. It was so lovely to spend NYE in a nearly empty theatre with my husband-bestfriend, just the two of us, enjoying a good fun adventure flick. It was the best NYE I've had in quite a while.
Now we're off to get some eye medicine for Lola...she's got a very irritated and gunky eye that we've got to take care of, stat!

Shop Amy's Artwear Now! (click there)
The latest additions to my shop...all totally rock! (And some have already sold, so don't miss your chance!)
Now that I'm almost all caught up, it's time to start all over again, with more artwear! I did a big batch of all sorts of stuff last week, and now that it's all pretty much up for sale, I've got more to churn out. I need to do Ada's request (my sister)--she asked for a Voodoo Queen sort of top, which is going to be really awesome. I just have to do it! I'll be doing a series of 6 of them, too. I've got my stencils all made and colors picked out...so what am I waiting for?
I also ordered my button machine yesterday, which I am very excited about. It's only a matter of time before I'll be making all sorts of groovy buttons and button-related goodies. It will be good business to have some items for sale that are in that very low price range, and I just love buttons and I'm always buying them, so I'm really looking forward to finally making my own.
I'm really proud of the Pirate Jenny jeans...they took a long time it seemed, but they were worth it. They look spectacular--on mannequins, on hangers, and (most importantly) on people! They're a part of a whole big Pirate Jenny series that I'm working on--jeans and tops and wallets and who knows what else?
Pirate Jenny is taken from a song and character in The Threepenny Opera by Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht (The same origins as Mack the Knife, btw). If you don't know what I'm talking about, Google it. Pirate Jenny totally rocks and she's the perfect inspiration for this series. The jeans are awesome and the tops are amazing, and that's the truth. I don't have any tops for sale yet, but they're coming soon and they are sure to razzle dazzle...
"There's a ship, the black freighter with a skull on its masthead will be coming in...And you see me stepping out in the morning looking nice with a ribbon in my hair...And the ship, the black freighter disappears out to sea and on it is me."
